Minamiza theater locates in Higashiyama area on Shijo Street in Kyoto.

This is the oldest theater in Japan since Edo period (1603-1868). The theater named as it locates on the South side of the Shijo Street (Minami=South).

The South area was developed as artistic performing area however it was burned out several times and the art performing center moved to Osaka. Minamiza is the only one left in actual place.

Kabuki was established in Shijo and Kamo River crossing (next to Minamiza) Mis. Okuni about 400 years ago based on Noh. And Kabuki is still in there.

During the performance from the end of Nov. to the end of Dic. Minamiza will decorate with Actors name “Maneki” is one of the seasonal sight of Kyoto as the end of the year.
