The attraction of Japanese room is able to use for multipurpose. Each room is not fixed its function so you can arrange as you wish.

And it makes unique atmosphere. Maybe as Tatami mat which has aroma of nature and feel nice and cold. Then Shoji and Fusuma (both are sliding door made with wood and paper) makes not too much closed personal area different from wall.

If you put scroll, pottery, etc some thing Japanese it makes perfect space.
