Yukata may be quite familiar to non-Japanese people. Usually, hotels and ryokan (inns) in Japan place it in the room, and some of you may have tried it on.
Originally, Yukata was worn to dry the body after the bath in the Heian Period, just like a gown.
Later, it became one of the favorite types of clothes among ordinary people in the Edo Period.
Today, it’s one of the items, which cannot be missed for events or festivals in summer.
Not many young people wear Kimono nowadays due to many reasons — for example, because it’s difficult to wear and it costs a lot. However, Yukata is relatively affordable and various designs are available for young people to wear.
